Married Couples Can Live Together in Iraq

Married Couples Can Live Together in Iraq?
Since married army couples can now live together in iraq. What happens if the female gets pregnant? Is the kid a US citizen? Are they punished for jepordizing the mission? Is the woman sent back home as soon as she gets pregnant? I mean I personally know some female soldiers that tried to get pregnant so they wouldn't have to go to Iraq... Uhh...yes, both parties are active duty, a civilian can't live in Iraq, I thought that was understood.. Since when? It's all over the news http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080401/ap_on_re_us/combat_marriages http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/iraq/2008-03-31-married-troops_N.htm?csp=34

A millitary base on foreign soil is still considered a U.S. territory.

Yes the child would be a U.S. citizen, any child born on a U.S. military or government installation abroad is considered an U.S. citizen. Just ask John McCain. As far as legal ramifications, I am not sure

I am with my husband stationed in Japan and we are about to have a baby within next week or so. And my child would be considered a US citizen. Of course I need to show proof that my husband and I are both US Citizens. You may need to speak to legal about "jepordizing the mission" Now are both parties active duty that is something completely different, again that would need to be brought to question with legal.

if u are born on a united states base u are a u.s. citizen b/c it is considered u.s. soil and after the birth you get maternity leave and he will get paternity leave

They would most likely be sent to one of the US army medi centers in GERMANY if they did not want to travel all the way back home , but they would most likely go on home ,IF the mother and father or both US citizens and the babys b orn over seas then thats where its homeland shall be intill the father/mother brings it back into the US territory

The Army has the most aggressive policy towards this and female soldiers that become pregnant while deployed to the AOR are given an Article 15 and so is the responsible male if they determine who it is. Some commanders have taken a softened approach to this and chosen no to prosecute them and instead let the female claim she became pregnant while on leave back home or after their pre-deployment physical or health screening. This latest policy change that is only a few days old could and probably be handled as an exception to policy or they may choose to enforce the letter of the policy which among other things makes it illegal for any carnal relations of any kind between soldiers while deployed in the AOR. You are correct in that some have tried to become pregnant prior to deploying and have succeeded and avoided it temporarily but their deployment clock is reset and they then deploy after having a child so its debatable which is really better.

i actually have not heard that married couples can live together in iraq. my good friend is an army captain and so is her husband. they are both at camp liberty and do not live together. if this has changed, it would be news to me.

The female gets sent back to the duty station and has the child there. I have seen article 15's for this action, but at the same time some didn't get in trouble? So I think it depends on the commander and so forth. But most of the time I would say they get busted down some. It's actually called dual citizenship, for instance my son was born here in Italy. He has a Italian birth certificate even though he was born on base. So really he was an Italian before an american, paperwork that is. Because we had to send for the american birth certificate and all that good stuff. So its dual you don't automatically become as US citizen if your born overseas. Yes you get the citizenship but its considered DUAL.

wow since when are married couples allowed to live together in iraq because if thats something that has been going on for a while i havent heard about it but either way if a female gets pregnant overseas and the child is born on any military installation the child is still a citizen because military bases are considered american territory.. and if you know some females that have tried to purposely get pregenant so they could avoid a deployment you should turn their @sses in for dereliction of duy. people like that disgust me

The female would be sent home once the pregnancy is confirmed. I know lots of females that got pregnant in Iraq, there was no type of punishment, just sent home. Yes the child would be a U.S. citizen, because the mother would be sent home immediately, or back to her duty station. Even if that's Germany or another foreign country the child will still be a U.S. citizen. I always felt like there should be some type of consequences. When that female leaves the mission becomes harder for everyone else. It's also very irresponsible.
