Whenever republicans really want to scare Americans into supporting their failed policies, they always say things like "do you want to wake up one day and find that you have to live under islamic law?" Isn't it Ironic, then that their own party and president effectively did the same thing to the moderates living in Iraq? The new Iraqi constitution that US soldiers are dying to protect puts Iraqi women and others under sharia law. The Islamic regime in Saudi Arabia, also fully supported by the Bush Administration, routinely executes and punishes citizens according to islamic law. Finally, in Pakistan, an ally in the war on terror, many localities use islamic law to settle differences and punish offenders. Isn't it a little disengenuous for the Republicans to spend so much energy scaring us into believing that if we don't agree with them, we will be subject to Sharia law, when they use US money and troops and influence to make sure that others have to live under it? You all must have forgotten the part where democracy is supposed to protect the rights of the minorities. Saudi and Pakistan and present-day Iraq are far from democracy. Kind of makes a mockery of ours to call those countries democracy.

we shouldnt tell an islamic state what to do..just as they shouldnt tell a christian state what to do...however..there should be minimum international humanitarian standards that all should live by and follow...wether or not they want to surpass these standards as america tries to..is their business...at the same time..we must be aware of the other countries of the world trying to influence and overcome our way of life by economic, terrorist, and military ways...we should always be aware of our enemies and potential enemies plans and policies and do what is right for american interests, not theirs or the worlds...

What needs to be understood is whatever rhetoric and/or policy works ! That's the mantra coming from the alternate capital Tel Aviv to Washington, CNN and Fox.

What Americans are serving and in some cases dying for, is not for Sharia law but for democracy. The elected Iraqi government has the power to institute a constitution with laws as deemed appropriate by the constituency. What you are referring to here in the States is the fear of a total theocratic dictatorship, which would exist if extremists get their way. Don't fool yourself into thinking we're too mighty for all that. We got our freedoms with the blood of our own. If you didn't know, the red stripes in our Star Spangled Banner represent that blood. Your view is quite shallow and uneducated. Do your homework before you spout of at the mouth about things you truly do not understand.

Simple it is called Democracy. If the majority of people in Iraq vote for such a Islamic state then it is their right to do so. I would not want such a state here in the US and if you liberals would let us do our job the right way there wouldn't be a problem of stopping it. Edit Democracies are not there to protect the minorities. They are there so that the majority of a population will have a government representative of the people.

Two2fly & Bill. GREAT answers. Doubtful he can understand them. I would love to send him a couple detainee's to live with him for a week-end. Would be great to send 2 al-Qaeda to each liberal's home to spend a week-end with them.
