I think this is well known... but Americans do not necessarilly sympathize with civilians working in these countries because they are well compensated and many have tax free incomes. Its their choice to be there and almost all of them are there for the money. Nothing wrong with that but I don't worry about people that have these motivations. I don't wish them ill will either. As far as politicians these people are no more significant than Americans living in Europe or any other nation... as a voting block it is small and does not factor into the electoral college unless they own property in a state (even then it is minimal).
