Im living in Iraq. Just got here and I was wondering if anyone out there knows if the magic phone jack really works and if it would work out here. I heard about Skype too. Which one would you suggest???

yes, but it must be set up first IN the USA. Once the account is established, then you can take it anywhere and call like you were in the USA.

You can do both Skype and MagicJack. I have both and both works. But I personally prefer the MagicJack. I think the MagicJack would be cheaper in terms of rates. Advantage to the Skype if your speaking with someone else with skype especially with a webcam you can talk and see them for free. Unfortunately they don't offer free voicemail, 3 way, call waiting etc. like MagicJack does. With the MagicJack it's a one time fee of $39.95 and a yearly subscription of $19.95. I said $19.95 a year not a month. Calls are clear like your talking on a regular analalog or digital home base phone.

I believe I have read about someone using a Magic Jack in Iraq with great success. If you are already there, get one sent to a relative so they can set it up for you. That way, when they send it to you, it will be ready for you to make calls to home instantly! I would suggest you have them go to the below web site and preview how to install it properly the first time. Installing it is NOT as simple as seen on their infomercial. http://www.magic-jack.info/ If you are going to buy it from there, look for a link on above site to find discount coupon (promo) codes that can save you from $2.00 to $6.95. I tried Skype, but that just seems like a glorified instant messenger & you generally have to use a headset instead of any regular telephone. There are Skype-enable phones, but those tend to be very expensive. Good Luck!
