Why would a guy lie about his living conditions in Iraq

Why would a guy lie about his living conditions in Iraq?
The man I am dating told me how bad it was in Iraq and how he was suffering and fighting hard for this country. I believed him until some people showed me that the base he is deployed to is built up well and he isn̢۪t suffering and is getting hot meals. Why would he lie to me? He hasn̢۪t signed online yet, but when he does sign online to talk to me, I plan on asking him why he exaggerated.

Hate to break it to you but he prolly isnt special forces for 1st flame thrower division either. Some people have a complex where they like to talk themselves up to be bigger and badder than they really are. This is why most admin guys and techs (no offence)are the ones that live in the gym with 20" arms. Dont hate on the guy too bad he prolly had his head in the right place. You started seeing him cause you thought he was a hero. He just wanted to give you that hero. Truth is some of us folks just do our job as boring as it can be sometime. As many times as i been over there i only saw combat on 2 of those deployments. Be nice, verbally trash him when he gets back. Dont screw with his moral while he is there. He is on the other side of the world wearing all that body armor sweating his brains out. Salsa night is only one day of the week

To tell you the truth, either he's lying or he really does live in a crap-hole. I knew several Soldiers who lived in places like Balad, which had Burger King, Green Beans Coffee (think Starbucks), and several other things that made it great when there wasn't incoming rockets and mortars coming in. Then I knew several more who lived in crap-holes that were no bigger than a football field, were muddy, and they were lucky if they got a shower once a week if that (you can forget about the water being hot unless they're taking a shower in July around 12 pm). Very few Solders are actively fighting due to the draw-down and giving control to the Iraqis but that doesn't men Soldiers still aren't shot at or don't have IEDs going off. One thing you need to consider is that even if he doesn't have it that bad, he still volunteered to serve his country, which is more than what can be said about a lot of the youth today who think they're too "good" to join the military because of their pipe dream that they will be accepted into the best college, graduate with flying colors, and get a six-figure job the day after they get handed their degree.

How long have you been "dating" this guy? Let me guess....about as long as you have known him through some "dating" website? ----------------------------------- by Martha Golden "Why don't people believe women who say they can build a relationship with a man online?"
